HOW TO PREPARE THE CLIENT FOR A BLOOD DRAW
Have The Client:
- All testing is in compliance with State and Federal guidelines.
- Food and drink consumed prior to the blood test may affect results.
- Physical evaluations require a picture I.D. for all exams.
- Each blood kit is sealed, sanitized and poses no danger.
- Authorizations are required for:
- Blood draw.
- Lab to send results direct to the insurance company’s home office.
- Observation of labeling and sealing all specimen containers.
A copy of the lab I.D. slip with authorization and an American Red Cross
pamphlet on AIDS will be provided by the examiner.
HOW TO PREPARE THE CLIENT FOR A PARAMEDICAL EXAM
Have The Client:
- List in advance all major illnesses, dates, physicians, addresses, hospitals, and medications
- Get a good night’s rest (at least 8 hours).
- Schedule the appointment at the least stressful time of the day.
- Avoid all alcoholic beverages.
- Avoid or restrict nicotine and caffeine.
- Have photo identification readily available (i.e. driver’s license, etc.).
- Plan to provide a urine specimen.
- Relax. The exam is usually completed in less than 20 minutes.
HOW TO PREPARE THE CLIENT FOR AN ELECTROCARDIOGRAM (ECG)
Inform The Client:
- An ECG is done in a lying down position.
- Undressing from the waist up is required.
- Women must remove stockings prior to the exam.
- Only female examiners perform ECG tracings on female clients.
- The client will be asked to sign and date the first lead tracing for identification.
- The ECG lasts about 10 minutes.
